Matthew Rhys goes from playing a Russian spy in The Americans to a defence lawyer in the HBO series, Perry Mason. The show is the origin story of the famous lawyer of the 1960s TV series.
Set in Los Angeles in 1932, he takes on strange cases for cash and extorts money from people as he struggles to sort out his messy personal life. He is then asked to solve a sensational case involving the kidnapping of a baby boy who was killed and is quickly drawn into the dark and seedy underbelly of Los Angeles and a much bigger conspiracy set a century ago.
The network recently renewed the show for a second season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the premiere episode reached eight million viewers on HBO.
