Sebastian Vettel has always been a true lover of motorsport, not just Formula 1. So, it’s no surprise to me that he’s back behind the wheel again, this time in a Porsche 963 hypercar as part of its big pre-Le Mans endurance test at Aragon in Spain.
Just like his old mate Mark Webber before him in the LMP1 days, it would make total sense if he joins the Porsche works sportscar team – and made positive noises after driving for two double stints during its 36-hour test this week.
Could he join the line-up for its third car at Le Mans in June? Porsche Penske Motorsport has only listed Mathieu Jaminet so far, which suggests a decision-making process is yet to be made. I know IMSA aces Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr will be chomping at the bit to return, while Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden has been ruled out despite joining the winning team in Daytona’s Rolex 24 Hours.
But could Vettel join its ranks like Nico Hulkenberg did in 2015? The Hulk, of course, went on to win Le Mans at his first attempt… By: Charles Bradley, Global Editor in Chief Motorsport.com |
