The all-pervasive internet—which emerged in the 1990s and has now become an indispensable part of our lives—is constantly evolving. In its nascent stages, it was known as Web 1.0. Back then, only some institutions and brands created content; a majority of the population only consumed this content. Static web pages containing content extracted from files instead of a database were the norm. Web 2.0, a system that we are accustomed to, came close on the heels of Web 1.0. Using Web 2.0, users have become consumers and contributors to the world of content. One can become an active participant by publishing blogs, tweeting, and posting social media content.
