| Hello. Israel has announced the opening of key aid routes into Gaza following a call between US President Joe Biden and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Our live page has the latest news and analysis. In Taiwan, our correspondents speak to residents of Hualien's red brick building that tilted over after the earthquake hit. Even if sport isn't your thing, I recommend checking out a story about two siblings on the cusp of making history for Athletic Bilbao, and a video of a diver's mishap at the inauguration of an Olympic venue in Paris. | |

TOP OF THE AGENDA | Israel opens aid routes at Biden's urging | | A recent UN-backed report warned that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was turning into a man-made famine. Credit: Getty Images | Israel has agreed to increase aid deliveries into Gaza, allowing the use of the port of Ashdod and reopening the Erez crossing in northern Gaza that had been closed since that start of the war that followed the deadly Hamas attack on 7 October. This "major change of policy", as Middle East correspondent Yolande Knell calls it, shows the influence the US still wields on Israel. US President Joe Biden said he was outraged and heartbroken by Israel's killing of seven aid workers in Gaza. Thursday's call with Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reflected "a significant shift" in the country's position, says State Department correspondent Tom Bateman. "The US is saying there is a limit to the support it will give Israel," he writes. Get the latest on our live page.
'Israel owes the world an explanation': The parents of Jacob Flickinger, who was killed in the aid convoy strike, rejected Israel's apology over his death.
Significant errors: Evacuation warnings the Israeli military issued to people in Gaza ahead of attacks contained mistakes that made them confusing, a BBC analysis has revealed. The army has rejected any assertion the warnings were confusing or contradictory.
Franchise rehomed: McDonald's is to buy back all its Israeli restaurants following a boycott of the fast-food brand in response to the war in Gaza.

| Waking up to a shaking building | | Chang Hsin, right, and Wei Pang-Huan lived inside the Uranus Building, Credit: BBC | Chang Hsin had just woken up in her apartment in Hualien's Uranus Building when Tuesday's 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit. The building started to shake and partially collapsed, and images of the tilted structure have since been shared across the world. |

| | "The house started to tilt while I was still inside," Ms Chang said. "My legs were shaking, and I couldn't stand steady. I still can't calm down, especially with the aftershocks last night." Local reports said one female teacher died in the building when she returned to rescue her cat. The block is due to be demolished on Friday, and Wei Pang-Huan, who lived on the fifth floor, wasn't sure if she would be able to collect any of her belongings. "All my belongings are in the building. I wonder if I could go inside to retrieve some important items, but it depends on the rescue team's instructions," she said. |

And finally... | What's probably a diver's worst nightmare happened to French athlete Alexis Jandard during the inauguration of an Olympic aquatics centre north of Paris. As he prepared to dive into the pool, Mr Jandard slipped and fell, hitting his back on the board before ending up in the water. His back is fine, he reassured people on social media. His ego, not so much.
