The essence of, well, Essence: Essence Festival is here and our music guy Keith Spera says to expect a big birthday party for hip-hop. For the first time in its nearly-three-decade run, female rappers will headline each of the festival’s three nights in the Caesars Superdome.
Graying at the temples: Jefferson Parish’s population is aging. Evidence? Well, census data, of course. And this: the old Kmart on Veterans Memorial Boulevard will become a medical clinic that caters exclusively to those 65 and older, Drew Broach reports.
Cracking a cold case: Squirrel hunters found some human remains in a remote area of St. Tammany Parish in 1993. There was a skull and a pair of eyeglasses, but little else for investigators to go on. Now, thanks to DNA and dogged sleuthing, an ID has been made, Alex Lubben reports.
