Happy Super Regional Saturday, everyone. The LSU Tigers (46-15) and Kentucky Wildcats (40-19) square off Saturday in Game 1 of the NCAA Baton Rouge Super Regional at Alex Box Stadium. First pitch is set for just after 2 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN. All eight super regionals are slated to be in action Saturday, but the LSU-UK super promises to be ... well, super. The Tigers took two of three from the Wildcats at The Box back in April, winning 16-6 in eight innings (mercy rule), losing 13-10 then winning the series final 7-6. We've got a lot to get to in today's newsletter, so much packed into it we're going to have to employ our old friends (trumpet fanfare, OK, kazoo fanfare) ... the bullet points. - LSU catcher Hayden Travinski pushed through a lot of adversity to achieve his now starring role with the Tigers' baseball team.
- Dylan Crews may well be the best LSU baseball player ever. But to truly be the best at LSU, you have to achieve something great.
- We've got all the latest odds on the LSU-Kentucky super regional.
- What's up with the Tigers' odd defensive shifts in the outfield? We explain the motivation behind the method here.
- Tickets for the super regional are hard to come by, but not for LSU students, thanks to coach Jay Johnson.
- How to watch Saturday's LSU-Kentucky game.
- Led by an NCAA 4x100 relay title (won in controversial fashion), the LSU men's track and field team finishes fourth at the NCAA Championships.
- Kim Mulkey doesn't turn anyone away from her basketball camp, one reason the coach of the defending national champions had nearly 1,600 participants in it. We focus on one very special camper here.
That's all we've got for you today, folks. Quite frankly, that's plenty for you to chew over between now and first pitch. Enjoy your sports weekend, everyone, and we'll see you next time. Scott Rabalais |
