π Hello readers!π I'm so excited to announce our first read of 2020: Kevin Wilson's heartwarming (pun intended) novel, Nothing to See Here. It's a book about family β given and chosen β and follows disillusioned 28-year-old Lillian, who agrees to be live-in nanny to the twin stepchildren of her incredibly wealthy former best friend Madison. Their dad is a politician who can't afford to seem anything but normal, and Madison prioritizes her biological son. The twins have plenty cause not to trust anyone, let alone this random stranger. And then of course there's the difficulty of the fact that they regularly burst into flames.
This book is uniquely special to me β I started it at the very beginning of my maternity leave, that destabilizing time when youβre suddenly living with a crying newborn who doesnβt know the difference between day and night, and when every minute of sleep is a gift. That I chose this book over naps more than once is a testament to my love for it. It probably helped that it was a story about a woman leaping into change with hardly any idea of what she was doing or how it would change her. But it does change her, profoundly, and this small, weird, quasi-familyβs summer together is equal parts hilarious and moving. I hope you love it, too.
