All the latest on power outages, damage reports, flooding and more.
with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editorThe more we saw of the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the more it became clear: It's going to be a long time before southeast Louisiana gets back to normal. "I can't tell you when the power is going to be restored," Gov. John Bel Edwards said at a press conference yesterday afternoon. "I can't tell you when all the debris is going to be cleaned up." More than a million people didn't have power statewide. More than 300,000 didn't have running water. Most of the Baton Rouge region wasn't hit as hard as coastal areas and New Orleans did. Still, most didn't have power, and cell service was spotty for a lot of people. And to the west, in Livingston and Tangipahoa Parishes, there was plenty of wreckage from intense winds. Parts of those parishes were also were battling high water — and the flood risk isn't over yet for our area. Our team of reporters will be back out tomorrow bringing you the latest on Ida's aftermath and what the recovery might look like. We hope you're staying safe. |
