Hi John,
After just three days, my new evening art-making habit is already off-track 😛
Last night, when I would be doodling in my journal, our kids brought out a card game. Fun!
Three hours later we-just-couldn't-stop-playing!
No art for me, but all the laughter and time together made it 100% worth the activity swap.
Establishing new habits can be hard, especially when we don't anticipate potential roadblocks, and sometimes those new habits don't work out.
In this case, I had three successful days of evening art-making, which was great. In hindsight, this was all over a long holiday weekend, so maybe those evenings were simply more fluid.
Rather than grandstand about my new schedule, I should have simply said that I'm testing it out!
What I know to be true: Mornings can feel much easier to manage when the house is quiet and I have a little more control of the time.
So I'll keep playing around with this and see where it lands. For now, I'll just say that I'm making art just about each day ;)
Back to my almost-daily art habit, I thought I'd fill a couple pages with with help from my stack of 100 or so Art Prompt Cards (see my p.s. for the link if you want to download the mini pack).
The first card prompted me to make a horizontal line, the second card was a prompt to make heavy marks, this third card was "add a number." Altogether I used 8 cards, adding more layers with each step, and attempting to create a cohesive composition.
About 30 minutes later I felt a sense of creative accomplishment with an exercised mind and a unique art spread filled with new ideas.
Given the positive response I've received with my art prompts and how much interest there's been in the mini pack of Art Prompt Cards, I'm considering a couple new projects:
- Digital Download: A ready-to-use set of 50-100 art cards you could use right away.
- DIY Class: An interactive or at-your-own-pace online class where you'll learn how to make your own set of 50-100 Art Prompt Cards, step-by-step.
Which option interests you more?
- A Digital Download of Art Prompt Cards
- A DIY Class to create my own set of Cards
- Both sound great!
