Greetings!

📰 I hope you're having a great long weekend. If you read today's travel news round-up below, you will see there's was a lot of news this week and weekend, including the shooting of San Francisco 49ers first-round pick Ricky Pearsall during a robbery attempt in Union Square.

🍹Airline CEO wants to impose two-drink limit at airports to curb unruly passenger behavior
Another big story this week was about the airline CEO who is pushing for stricter regulations to curb the rise in disruptive passenger behavior linked to alcohol and drug use. One of the regulations is a two-drink limit at airports. I’m all for it because I’m sick and tired of reading stories and seeing videos of unruly passengers and the majority of the time, these incidents are fueled by drugs, alcohol or both. Here's the story.

📰 Potential strikes affecting travel
There are a lot of potential strikes taking place all over the world, including here in the U.S. (United Airlines and Hawaii hotels), Canada (Air Canada) and Europe (what else is new?).

☀️ Another smooth travel day?
In happier news, so far, it's a smooth day for air traveler as it was for most of the week. Thankfully, this week there were very few delays and cancelations.

🤠 Viva San Antonio! How to enjoy (and survive) the best of Fiesta

In late April, we sent one of our writers to Texas for San Antonio's Viva Fiesta! It takes place for 11 days and celebrates the city’s rich history, local culture and diversity with an exuberance that she says is unmatched anywhere else in the US. Whether you travel with your family or come with friends, there are over a hundred official Fiesta related events and activities for all ages to choose from. The challenge is scheduling which days to experience all the fun. Here's Laura's story

Travel Trivia Tuesday
Earlier this week, we were driving home from meeting friends from Canada at the In-N-Out Burger next to LAX. A Lufthansa plane was landing and my son asked me what bird is on their logo? I thought it was a great question. So, that's this week's Travel Trivia Tuesday question: What kind of bird is on the Lufthansa logo? Scroll down to find the answer.

Nantucket beachgoers save beached great white shark’s life

Here’s something you don’t see every day, nor do you want to. Over the weekend, beachgoers in Nantucket (one of my favorite places in the summer) came across a white shark beached on the shoreline. Here's the video and what you need to know about saving wildlife.

‘Bad behavior doesn’t fly’: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg offers firm but friendly warning ahead of Labor Day weekend

This year’s record-breaking summer travel season officially comes to a close after this weekend’s Labor Day holiday (though, I would argue it happened last week when the majority of kids went back to school in the U.S.) When I was a kid, the first day back to school was always the Tuesday after Labor Day but times have changed. To help travelers prepare for the long weekend crush, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg took to social media to issue a firm but friendly reminder and some useful tips to help make the busy period easier and less stressful. Read the story here.

Early holiday savings: Labor Day travel deals for 2024 escapes

American Airlines passenger goes on rampage with hammer at airport ticket counter over fake ticket scam

There’s an old saying: “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” This phrase is a warning to be cautious of deals or offers that seem unrealistic or overly attractive; they may be misleading or deceptive. Unfortunately, for an American Airlines passenger, he not only fell for a fake ticket scam but his reaction was pure insanity. Read the story and watch the video here.

‘Behave or we will get off!’: Flight attendant screams at passenger who asked for a blanket

Unruly passengers are a nightmare but it's not always the passengers who are unruly, as evidenced in an incident that occurred earlier this summer aboard a Montreal-bound flight from Casablanca, Morocco. Here's the video and story.

What?! Woman in coach seat makes sourdough bread from scratch on long-haul flight

By now, we've all seen our fair share of craziness on airplanes - whether in person or if you're lucky, you've only read about it. But this latest stunt takes the cake ... or should I say bread? Read the story and watch the video here.

✅ Travel Trivia Answer

What bird is on the Lufthansa logo?

Answer: According to Wermac.org: "The Lufthansa logo, an encircled stylized crane in flight, was created in 1918 by Otto Firle. It was part of the livery of the first German airline, Deutsche Luft-Reederei (abbreviated DLR), which began air service on 5 February 1919. In 1926 Deutsche Luft Hansa adopted this symbol, and in 1954 Lufthansa expressed continuity by adopted it, too.

The original creator of the name Lufthansa is believed to be F.A. Fischer von Puturzyn. In 1925, he published a book entitled "Luft-Hansa," which examined the options open to aviation policymakers at the time. Luft Hansa was the name given to the new airline, which resulted from the merger of Junkers Luftverkehr AG and Deutscher Aero Lloyd.
