Your voice is needed in Oregon’s Democratic Party! You can have a say about what’s in our state party’s platform, but we need you to act quickly to let us know your interest. The Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO) will convene its biennial platform convention Aug.15-17, 2025 at Western Oregon University (WOU) in Monmouth, Oregon. Every registered Democrat in Jackson County is eligible to apply to be a delegate at the platform convention. There is a tight turnaround for applying, so if you are interested, you must contact us right away, by sending an email to the Jackson County Democrats party chair, David Sours, at Chair@jcdemocrats.org. This is your chance to have an impact! You can apply to be a Convention Delegate or Alternate and make your voice heard in person. Or you can submit your ideas electronically (see below). Based on the democratic party’s total registration across Jackson county, our county has an allocation of 44 delegates and 22 alternates for the platform convention in August. We want our delegation to reflect the diversity of Jackson County as much as possible. The DPO does not want economic hardship to be a barrier to participation. Accordingly, they have announced a schedule of modest fees. Scholarships may be also be available. Take a look at what is being proposed for the 2025 platform by the state party’s platform committee: Draft 2025 Platform Proposed Legislative Action Items (LAI) The draft platform and proposed legislative actions items are by no means final documents. There is still opportunity to provide electronic feedback and suggestions, all of which will be considered by the state party’s Platform Committee. Then a final draft will be put before the convention delegates in August, and they will be able to discuss, revise, and further debate before a final vote. Are you interested in providing electronic feedback on the platform and LAIs? Are you interested in applying to be a Delegate or Alternate to the convention? Please email your interest to our party chair, David Sours, at Chair@jcdemocrats.org -Jackson County Democrats |
