East Baton Rouge Parish is spending that much every day to send 10 17-year-old inmates 200 miles away to Jackson Parish Correctional Center in Jonesboro during a dispute over conditions at the local jail. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome maintains that the juveniles can be held in the parish prison; Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says the facility is unfit to house them. In an effort to head off potential lawsuits, Louisiana lawmakers made several changes to a bill requiring schools and universities to post the Ten Commandments.
