Jameis Winston voted winner of Ed Block Courage Award

Happy Friday, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for January 6.

Jameis Winston was voted by his teammates as this year’s recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award. The annual award recognizes a player from each NFL team who has preserved through adversity with a commitment to sportsmanship and courage. Saints writer Terrin Waack writes about Winston winning the award.

Speaking of awards, Cameron Jordan received one as well. The Saints defensive end was voted winner of this year’s Jim Finks Appreciation Award. The award, voted on by local media members, is presented to the player who best helps the media through both their insight and through their cooperation with interview requests. Saints writer Luke Johnson tells you more about Jordan winning the award.

The Saints have one more game left. Is this the week first round draft pick Trevor Penning makes his first start at left tackle? Maybe so, as Luke writes in this story on Penning.

Also, here’s Thursday’s injury report, which had some good news compared to the day before.

Also, the Saints and Pelicans are donating 67 defibrillators to local recreation departments. These donations are the result of Monday's incident when Buffalo Bills' defensive back Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

That’s all for now. Check our website throughout the day to get the latest on the Saints as they get ready for the regular season finale against the Carolina Panthers.

Have a good weekend.

Until next time,

Rod Walker
