BoldBrush Recommends: James VoseBiographyJim Vose practiced corporate law for many years before he decided to throw everything over and run off with art. In preparation, he spent six years as a part-time student at The Atelier, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Atelier, which was founded by the American painter Richard Lack, who was also one of the founders of the classical realism movement in the United States, provides rigorous training in the traditional methods of realist oil painting. Since leaving The Atelier, Jim has painted nearly every day for more than a dozen years. Jim concentrates his efforts on still life, in oil and in graphite. His work depicts a broad range of objects, from fruit and vegetables to childrens' toys, mechanical and musical instruments, and flowers. As a rule, he does not depict objects of a sort that could have existed only after the invention of plastic. His paintings hang in the houses of collectors across the United States and, recently, in the UK. His paintings have been selected as finalists in the 14th (2019), 15th (2021) and 16th (2022) International Salons conducted by the Art Renewal Center, as further detailed below. The ARC Salon is the largest and most prestigious juried international competition for representational artists. His painting called The Weight of Words was awarded third place in still life in the 38th Annual Competition (2021) of the Artists Magazine, and his painting called Dairy Diptych/Milk and Eggs was awarded an honorable mention in still life in the 39th Annual Competition (2022) of the Artists Magazine. His paintings have also been juried into the 32nd Annual National Exhibition of the Oil Painters of America, the 2023 Richeson 75 Small Works exhibition, and the 2023 Richeson Still Life and Floral exhibition, and have received Honorable Mention designations in Online Showcase Exhibitions conducted by the Oil Painters of America. His paintings also have been juried into the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society's Best of America Exhibition (2023), NOAPS's Online International Exhibitions for Fall 2021, Spring 2022, Fall 2022, and Spring 2023, and NOAPS's 2022 Associate Member Exhibition.
