In January 2020, FinTech startups across the globe raised $3.32 billion worth of VC/PE investments across 196 deals. In terms of MoM trends, there was a decrease of 26.2% from the $4.5 billion raised by FinTechs in terms of VC funding in December 2019. In terms of the number of deals, there was an increase of 14.6% MoM compared to 171 deals in December.

In region-specific terms, the Americas dominated global FinTech VC funding in January with 57.6% in contributions in terms of funding value ($1.917 billion) and 46.4% in terms of the number of deals (91). Europe placed second with 25% in contributions to global FinTech VC funding in January by value ($832.7 million) and 31.1% in terms of the number of deals (61).
