Jan. 6 suspect from Baton Rouge to be held behind bars until trial

Edward L. Richmond Jr. of Baton Rouge will be held in custody until a trial is held on his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

He faces federal felony and misdemeanor charges accusing him of participating in the riot and using a metal baton to strike officers defending the building.

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday ordered Richmond, 40, to surrender to local law enforcement by Monday.


Baton Rouge Community College is among the institutions that have launched new programs aimed at getting more truck drivers on the nation's roads. The industry was short about 80,000 drivers in 2023, a number the American Journal of Transportation forecasts could double by 2030.

The college’s second cohort of students in its Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program started class this week.
