Good afternoon! It's Thursday, December 8, and today's headlines include research on American perspectives on the Respect for Marriage Act, the pro-abortion group "Jane's Revenge" threatening to carry out a mass shooting in Nebraska, and Sadie Robertson Huff's comments on marriage and dating during a recent episode of the "Whoa That's Good Podcast."
|
A national survey from Rasmussen Reports has revealed that 62% of 1,000 likely U.S. voters approve of the Respect for Marriage Act that replaces existing provisions under federal law that protects any marriage between two individuals. According to the results, 40% strongly approve of the same-sex marriage bill, while 33% disapprove and 21% strongly disapprove. Forty-nine percent also said they approve of a provision in the bill that would allow "any person who is harmed" to file lawsuits against organizations that do not recognize same-sex marriage, while 45% said they disapprove of the provision.

After the bill passed the Senate last week, Ryan Bangert of Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal advocacy group, stated that the bill " undermines religious freedom everywhere and exposes Americans throughout the country to predatory lawsuits by activists seeking to use the threat of litigation to silence debate and exclude people of faith from the public square." When asked whether they
agree with Bangert's statement, 50% of respondents said that they did, with 36% indicating that they strongly agree. Support for the bill differed among political parties, with 81% of Democrats and 35% of Republicans at least somewhat approving of the legislation. Continue reading.

Abortion activists with "Jane's Revenge" have allegedly threatened to carry out a mass shooting at a Catholic ministry center in Nebraska if an abortion ban passes. Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins tweeted an image of the threat, which was posted on the door of a venue hosting the Students for Life of America Political Leadership Workshop taking place that day. "If our right to abortion in Bellevue is taken away due to the attempt to pass an abortion ban and it gets passed we will shoot up your Newman center with our new AR74 rifles," the note read. Eight Nebraska cities have declared themselves "sanctuary cities for the unborn," enacting ordinances that prohibit abortions from taking place within the city limits. Students for Life of America is
seeking to add Bellevue to that list. Read more.

During an interview with Fox News, Brave Books said that more than 50 public libraries have not responded to their request for a Kirk Cameron story hour or have declined, despite featuring drag queen story hours. The publisher cited the example of Rochambeau Public Library of Providence, Rhode Island, which declined the story hour offer. The library, which describes itself as a "very queer-friendly library," said Cameron would be allowed to reserve a space but that they would not run the program because their messaging "does not align." Cameron told Fox News Digital that he believed the rejections are "proof ... we are getting destroyed in the battle for the hearts and minds of our children," adding, "Publicly funded libraries are green-lighting ‘gender marker and
name change clinics’ while denying a story time that would involve the reading of a book that teaches biblical wisdom. How much more clear can it get?" Read more.

A Memphis-based hospital has temporarily halted "gender-affirming" surgeries to review its current practices after several providers "voiced questions." The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee (ACLU-TN) has threatened to file a formal complaint to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services against the hospital as a result, saying it is "deeply concerned" over the hospital's decision. Rachel Powers, a Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare spokesperson, told The Chrisitan Post in a statement Wednesday that the hospital remains committed to delivering "high quality and compassionate care" to all patients, regardless of "race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression." Powers added that the hospital has not changed its
practices regarding trans-identifying individuals, adding that physicians are moving forward with rescheduling patients before the end of the year. Read more.

From prohibiting valid objections to LGBT advocacy in schools to promoting obscenity disguised as "diversity, equity and inclusion," there are numerous ways that child sexualization is being normalized in America today, writes Mission America President Linda Harvey. In this editorial, Harvey details ten examples of this normalization—from youth exposure to pornography to fake "support" groups for children that are used as a cover for predators—and warns, "It's not just abortion killing our children. It’s the agenda of the sexual left." Read more.

Liberty University writer and student Justin Bower discusses how Jesus can simultaneously be peace and bring peace. "You’ve heard the common mantra, 'Jesus is the reason for the season,' and I would like to encourage people to consider that in all seasons, peace is not some metaphorical thing to be felt, but a person," Bower says. Minister and Democrat incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Republican challenger and former football player Herschel Walker in Georgia's runoff election on Tuesday, further solidifying Democrat control of the upper chamber of Congress. This article from CP highlights five reactions to Warnock's win, including Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., calling it a "very significant loss," explaining, "Democrats will have the lead in every single committee; they'll have two-thirds of the funding in every single committee; they'll have the power to do subpoenas; they'll be doing their own investigations. So it's very, very different as far as how Senate will actually operate." Read more.

During a recent episode of her " Whoa That's Good Podcast," Christian reality TV star Sadie Robertson Huff cautioned that Christians should not take Bible verses intended for marriage and apply them to dating relationships. "I think sometimes we take these verses that are actually intended for marriage or intended for God's love for us, and we put them in a dating relationship. And I say 'we' because I used to do that. And it keeps us in dating relationships that we really shouldn't be in," Huff explained. She
discussed the importance of recognizing red flags in relationships, advising Christians to use "discernment" to determine whether they need to "move on" from a particular issue in their dating relationship or leave the relationship entirely. Huff also reflected on forgiveness and why couples shouldn't focus on their spouse's wrongdoings if they have apologized, pointing to 1 Corinthians 13:5, which states that godly love "keeps no record of wrongs."
