Good morning. Temperatures will be in the 30s with mostly sunny skies throughout the state. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

Janet Mills said she wants to reconsider utility regulations. What did she mean?

  • The Democratic governor, who stuck her neck out to back Central Maine Power's corridor proposal last year, surprised many by responding to the utility's myriad issues to say lawmakers should consider changes to the state's regulatory framework. It caused surprise and varied reactions in Augusta.

Daughter of Farmington blast victim says a bollard severed nonprofit’s propane line

  • The daughter of the Farmington fire captain who died in the September explosion that leveled a nonprofit and injured seven others got ahead of the release of state investigation findings to tell lawmakers the blast was caused by a bollard augured into place that severed a propane line.
Opioid prescriptions fell in Penobscot County after 2011, but county still led New England
  • The drop in opioid prescriptions between 2011 and 2014 became evident in newly released Drug Enforcement Administration data analyzed by the Washington Post. The first batch of those data, which showed numbers of pills distributed across the country between 2006 and 2012, came out in July of last year. The Post added two more years of data, from 2013 and 2014, in an analysis it published earlier this week.
  • The news comes after Coastal Resources of Maine has suffered several recent setbacks. The plant, which opened more than a year behind schedule, is still struggling to sell the fuel products that it makes from trash within the Pine Tree State. It also reopened late last week after shutting down for 4½ days when a partially full propane cylinder -- the kind used on a camping lantern -- exploded inside the facility.
Restrictions on building heights could be eased in Belfast
  • Renderings for a proposed downtown building show a five-story brick facade topped with a more modern-looking gray-and-glass structure peeking out over neighboring rooftops. It could feature apartments, alongside retail and office space. Residents will weigh on a proposal next week to raise the height limits for buildings in lower downtown which could pave way for this type of development.
4 pairs of brothers help create family atmosphere for top-ranked Old Town-Orono hockey team
  • Three seniors are playing with their sophomore siblings for the two-time defending regional champion Black Bears. The other two boys are sophomores who live together and are future stepbrothers. Their influence has helped build the team's chemistry.

The Bangor area was once home to more than 10 ski areas — nearly all now lost

  • There are lots of places to go cross-country skiing in Greater Bangor, but there’s only one place to try your hand at downhill skiing.

As recently as 40 years ago, however, there were at least 12 known ski mountains and hills in the Bangor area of varying size and popularity.
