Winter on the beach We love winter on the beach here at Atelier Beside the Sea, with its dramatic skies and big seas making artworks of the landscape. This limited edition print - The End of the Pier Show - from Brighton-based artist Janet Brooke epitomises this time of year on Brighton beach with the epic starling murmurations that we enjoy every day. As dusk begins to fall the starlings descend in small groups from all directions, building to great swirling clouds as the darkness gathers. It's a quintessentially Brighton show, something that Janet is adept at capturing. Come and see the full selection of her prints and greetings cards at the gallery, or shop the collection online. We are here 11am - 5pm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Images: The End of the Pier Show by Janet Brooke (above), cosy up for the show in a Rove Checkerboard scarf (below). |

Katie Sollohub courses at Atelier Beside the Sea We are delighted to welcome Katie Sollohub back to Atelier for a 2025 programme of courses in our beach-side classroom. We'll kick the year off with Drawing at Dusk: a twilight beach walk and drawing by candlelightworkshop onFriday 21st February, from 5 - 8pm. Bring a little creativity to the dark winter evenings, starting with a gentle walk on the beach at dusk to gather stones, shells, seaweed, and organic forms to draw from by candlelight back in the studio. You will explore the senses through touch and sound, working intuitively and quickly. Meditation and drawing exercises will encourage a sensory approach to drawing. Book your spot now! Later in 2025, Katie will be teaching her ever popular Sketchbooks by the Sea, and large scale drawing courses that will equip you with your own 8 x 4ft drawing board! Stay tuned for updates. Our refurbished fishing arch offers flexible, creative space in a stunning beach side location. It's suitable for creative courses, film screenings, book launches and team meetings, and can accommodate between 20-50 people depending on your requirements. If you'd like to hold a course or event in our refurbished fishing arch, please drop us an email to hello@atelierbrighton.co.uk and we can discuss the possibilities. |

FOLK fest If you have been enjoying Raising Hare - Chloe Dalton's memoir about raising a wild leveret, and BBC Radio 4's recent Book of the Week - you'll love Emily Warren's papier-mâché Hare as much as we do. We are delighted to have Hare alongside her Sleeping Giant, Snow Man, White Horse, Black Dog and Merman here in our FOLK exhibition. See all the included pieces by Emily Warren here. Also, new to the exhibition is a selection of exquisitely curious hand-painted porcelain jewellery from Chiara Bianchi. An Italian artist living in Brighton, Chiara has been involved in a wide variety of creative art forms and mediums across her career, from make up and performance art, to design and fashion. She takes inspiration from childhood memories, stories, manuscripts, encyclopaedias, portraiture and all that is dark a sweetly mysterious. Working well into the night enables Chiara to channel her imagination, mood and emotions into something palpable, “an object with a soul”. See the whole collection of earring, brooches and necklaces here. Also in FOLK, enjoy stone lithographs by Flora McLachlan, storybook landscapes by Kit Boyd, carnival characters from Bernard Lodge, jewellery by Rachel Larkins, collage from Kate Black and prints from Zoe Ansari, shrines from Catriona Faulkner, and punch needle creations from Bob & Eve.
