Venezuelan bassist and composer Gonzalo Teppa presents his new quintet performing original music from his latest album Away From Home. Each composition written by Teppa is inspired by his family and his native country, drawing from the musical wells of contemporary jazz, Latin American music (Venezuelan, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban), ballads, swing, blues, free jazz, and more. Teppa recorded the album this past June after winning the Pathways To Jazz Grant in 2018.

January 16th:
Bob Montgomery Little Big Band

Familiar jazz played unfamiliarly, and unfamiliar jazz that you’ll want to get familiar with! Internationally recognized trumpeter, bandleader, and educator Bob Montgomery leads a killin’ all-star band comprised of Colorado’s best musicians for one night only, featuring Montgomery’s original compositions and arrangements.

January 9th:
Tristano, Marsh, Konitz and More

Denver saxophonist Daryl Gott and his quintet pay tribute to three of the most singular voices in jazz: Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, and Lennie Tristano. The interwoven sounds of Konitz and Marsh have left a significant and relatively unexplored landmark in the jazz world. Stemming from the concepts explored by and with their teacher Tristano, their emphasis on melodic ingenuity and technical virtuosity opened the door to a modern and cerebral approach to jazz composition and improvisation, creating a sound that is still fresh to this day.

January 8th:

Happy Birthday to the King! The ever-enjoyable Rekha Ohal Quartet pays tribute to the legendary Elvis Presley with a toe-tapping selection of his many great hits. Wearing your Elvis costume is in no way required for admittance, but no one is gonna stop you.

Braxton Kahn Trio

The Braxton Kahn Trio is comprised of long-time friends who seek to communicate grace, joy, and humor through the lens of original compositions and personal takes on jazz repertoire. Kahn, Heffron, and Roberts all maintain busy schedules as sidemen in the Colorado music scene but are exceptionally excited to share their unique musical vision as a trio.

January 30th:
CCJA Winter Small Group Concert

Join the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts (CCJA) for a night of sensational student ensembles directed by the biggest names in the Denver jazz scene. CCJA is a unique non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth to creatively express themselves through the language of America’s art form—jazz.
