Japanese manufacturer brings 41 jobs to Laurens

Meidensha Corporation, a Japan-based switchgear manufacturer, expects to usher 41 jobs into Laurens County as it opens its new North American manufacturing base this month.

Applications reopen for USDA telemedicine grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a second application window for their Distance Learning and Telemedicine grant. An additional $25 million stemming from the recent Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act will be made available to applicants.

Business fraud attempts rising amid COVID-19 pandemic

Utility companies are reporting an increased number of attempts to scam businesses using the coronavirus outbreak as a pretext for collecting money that’s not owed by customers. A Dominion Energy spokesman said businesses should always be wary when someone demands immediate payment to avoid a disconnect.

S.C. Ports cuts costs amid pandemic

The S.C. Ports Authority is cutting its costs by 10% to account for slowing container volumes amid the coronavirus pandemic. The cost-cutting measures are taking place immediately and will continue into the 2021 fiscal year.
