The word streetwear is very loaded right now. With OAMC the goal wasn’t to try to get labeled. It was to try to make cool s*** from cultured and eclectic ideas; it was that simple. | | Designer Geoffrey Beene checking out shoes in Milan, Italy, 1978. | rantnrave:// Have you checked out 24 SÈVRES? Overall, LVMH's return to multi-brand e-commerce is a deft one, albeit quieter than I expected. The site is beautiful, clean, and it does evoke a sense of place, mixing heritage and craft with the contemporary. Sculptural forms, furniture, trunks, flowers, and stylized shipping crates share space in the site's imagery and product photography. Love the concept of having limited edition pieces created for the site, and I enjoy the details that push subtly against conventions of design, like the "hand-sketched" icons. Those touches make the site directional and memorable. Would love to see more rare or high-octane fashion offerings. For lack of a better term, the site could use more #grails. The UX is well-executed, yet conventional. It's worth visiting. IAN ROGERS and ERIC GOGUEY spoke to FAST COMPANY and YAHOO STYLE about the launch. GLOSSY's JILL MANOFF points out that the site caters to PARIS, which, on one hand makes sense—that's the location of LE BON MARCHÉ. On the other hand, it goes against the broader trajectory of luxury e-commerce—rootless, placeless, catering to anyone with access to the network and a credit card. DIOR and LOUIS VUITTON, two jewel-in-the-crown brand offerings, aren't currently available to ship to the USA. Still, the site's above average IMHO. Transformative? They're iterating... The CFDA Awards. I thought there'd be a lot more to say, but as it turns out, it's a night for the CFDA. Putting establishment in establishment. There's a time and place for that. The CFDA has a long history of building resources and a community for American fashion. ANNA WINTOUR's speech for FRANCA SOZZANI was beautiful. RAF is Raf (wonderful, achieved meme status). But where's the rest? The experimental, the wild, the for-better-or-worse revolutionary? GARY WASSNER brought up some great points on TWITTER. Do American labels have difficulty with name recognition abroad? Does the stigma that American designers are somehow less creative than their European counterparts still persist? Can anyone look better than ALEK WEK in this BALENCIAGA look? (Answer: I don't think so)... GARAGE MAGAZINE is live on VICE, and if CINTRA WILSON's ride through imaginary fashion VR (on hyperdrive) is any indication, there's some exciting stuff on the way... Kaleidoscopes are making an appearance, in LOUIS VUITTON's new customization campaign and the APPLE WATCH's kaleidoscope face, announced at WWDC... A brief look at shanzhai counterfeit designers...
