There needs to be cross-pollination, joking, playing, interaction — and failure. Command and control is less and less viable today. The creative director of today has to be a symphony conductor.

rantnrave:// Thank the internet: mountains of fashion media are turning up in runway show footage, photographs, lookbooks, and more. There's as much to discover in fashion's past as in the latest season, and seeing it show up in unexpected places is part of the fun. Fashion amateurs, hypebeasts, influencers, et al.—wasn't everyone, even the most OG of fashion editors, simply a fan at first look? Love this story on ILIUS AHMED, who owns a rare collection of runway footage, press packets, lookbooks, and more from the '90s and '00s. His door to the industry didn't come through work: "It started when [I] was eight and I was watching a fashion programme." The designer? YSL. As a teenager, Ahmed wrote letters to fashion houses he admired. That turned into a twenty-year journey that had Ahmed attending the haute couture shows of LACROIX and GIVENCHY. Do fashion houses want access to this kind of material today? There's surely more to be uncovered. Ahmed is sharing his collection via @unforgettable_runway... Made in AMERICA. Surprise, but not really, it doesn't fit into easily repeatable soundbites. Take it from those who know. And more who know... ICYMI: KATIE GRAND joins W... LOUIS VUITTON launches e-commerce in CHINA... TORRID will show at NYFW... Architect NORMAN FOSTER is working on a collection with RAPHA... The VETEMENTS pile, showcased inside windows at the SAKS flagship in MANHATTAN, highlights the fairly mundane practice of dealing with all. Of. The clothes. This pile, while sending a message (just embrace it), will go to RewearABLE.
