| rantnrave:// I’m a fan of WANDA NYLON. Lots of prisms and iridescence reflecting off the eyeballs today and I love it… RUPAULxDOLLY address that age-old question: “Can heels and wigs ever be too high?” Answer: “Absolutely not…” Has anyone been using the GOOGLE Fashion week search? Would love to hear thoughts on it… You can livestream MARIA GRAZIA CHIURI’S DIOR debut today at 8:30am ET… I’ve been reflecting recently on JEWELS—their place in the economy as, to quote ANNE HOLLANDER, that most “concentrated and enduring” of all commodities. If you’re out to collect, BONHAM’S has gotchu on gems from the mid-(20th)-century. Been conversing with M. PAUL MUNFORD over at LEANLUXE about fashion as an appreciating commodity. People are buying fashion now as an investment, like art. Design, too (s/o to WRIGHT AUCTION). Following Bonham’s lead, will contemporary fashion-fine-jewelry brands like DELFINA DELETTREZ, SOPHIE BILLE BRAHE, CHARLOTTE CHESNAIS, and others appreciate to the value of today’s Georgian necklaces and early 20th-century CARTIER? Let’s see… I love forum culture. There I said it. PURSEFORUM, THE FASHION SPOT, these are the places where genuine fandom proliferates (see HENRY JENKINS on this). SUSANNA LAU aka SUSIE BUBBLE aka lord of fashblogging extolls the virtues of fashion forums in BoF. What if this evolves, leveling up to look something like the gamer-site TWITCH? So many streetstyle pics flying by in the chatbox you can’t ever hope to see them all or read them all but that’s somehow beside the point anyway. On forums, there’s a strange magnetism to scrolling through post after post of product hauls, with mystical SA’s (sales associates) granting forum-goers the handbag/watch/shoe/whatever of their dreams. It’s real. Designers go there for honest critique. Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts find each other on forums and then go straight to suppliers in ASIA with minimum orders to get what they want, creating their own markets in the process. Would that work for fashion’s forums?… Fashion-related exhibition roundup: ARTHUR ELGORT, ITALIAN ARTISANRY (paywalled), FORDLANDIA, PROUST’S MUSE, DELVAUX-sponsored MAGRITTE, ZAHA HADID. In NYC, COMIC-CON is coming up, and HYPEBEAST’s got your back with this guide. TA-NEHISI COATES will be there chatting with STEVE ORLANDO. PECKxLEON part deux. | | - HK Mindy Meissen, curator |
