rantnrave:// I've met a lot of smart people at traditional media companies. They are thoughtful and have plans for transition and growth. Lots of variables and things need to happen to succeed. The most important? A CEO that has patience. Tells the street to take a breather while they set themselves up for the future. Rewards risks. Changes compensation structure to make sure defensive postures change. Invests. Is willing to deliver bad news or change to constituencies that may represent revenue but hold them back. Concentrates on data, ad targeting capabilities, direct-to-consumer relationships, picking good partners. And on and on... Sports has never shut itself off from the political world. Now, more than ever, athletes and coaches are taking a stand. Here’s a look at why they’re speaking up, and why some critics think they should stick to sports. REDEF SportsSET: "Should Athletes Stick to Sports?"... Why is cable television not re-running BOB ROBERTS? JACK BLACK as STEPHEN MILLER?... If I actually go to my building's board meeting I may self-combust. Should I take the chance?... With the debut of RAF SIMONS' collection for CALVIN KLEIN, here's a look back at the label's history: design, advertisements, and interviews with the company's founding designer. REDEF FashionSET: "CLOSE-UP: Calvin Klein"... Cable news networks should offer an online stream that just shows the face of the anchor while they listen to these ridiculous TRUMP surrogates. That's entertainment... It can be hard to overcome early startup culture mistakes. And if early enough can you start over rather than try to change those that won't?... FLYNN's replacement... Can you do CROSSFIT without being a dick?... I'm surprised by managers that don't know their job or wait to be told what to do. Constant push/pull with expectations vs. plain directives... Nutters focus on leaks... Curatorial help wanted: Looking for seriously talented fill-in curators familiar with media, technology, pop culture and more for MediaREDEF. CVs to jobs@redefgroup.com... Happy Birthday to DAVID RABIN, TED ZAGAT, JENNIFER RAINES and MILES BECKETT.
