When I think about high altitudes, I think about my wife, Jill. You know a kite does not rise into the air unless someone is holding the string... But, it's so important, you know, especially if that kite gets way high in the air, you really have to trust the person holding the line. And that person has to be loyal and believe in you and then have to have the strength to reel you back, so my wife, Jill, I thank you. And ... I'm looking forward to all our future days on ground together. And I'm glad I get to hold the cord for you and you get to soar as you do. | | Animation masterpiece Logorama. 2006. | rantnrave:// I roll my eyes at the phrase FOUR-QUADRANT MOVIE in 2017. Once upon a time, it might have made sense to say something appeals to "all four demographics" because it hits men and women both over and under 25, but it doesn't today. Hispanics are the highest per capita filmgoers, African Americans are the biggest TV viewers and whites the most populous. Liberals tend to be the chief programmers, but conservatives the most numerous and valuable. The viewing habits/devices/value of GEN X, Y and Z couldn't be more different. The definition of a blockbuster was once dependent only on US ticket sales. Today, the major studios think global. America is far more complex than ever, as is the global marketplace and our anthropological, ethnographic, demographic skillsets. Four-quadrant thinking had its time and place, but today, it belongs with the cassette tape... Our pal, music mogul, and REDEF investor TROY CARTER explains how he did it on NPR... JARED KUSHNER has a lot on his plate. JOHN OLIVER recently pointed that out. I compiled a running list of things I think Jared could fix or make happen. These are not ranked and should not go before peace in THE MIDDLE EAST, criminal justice reform, and other "stuff". Here goes: Being allowed to sit at your table before your party arrives and order appetizers before you know what entree you want to order... the sign-in page for the airplane Wi-Fi refuses to load and thus not being able to connect. Hate that... The hold clip spring that won't stay when you're filling up your car at the gas station. I hate having to sit there and hold it... Outlaw restaurants that demand no substitutions. A menu is a jumping off point. That should be a constitutional amendment... Make the diet gummies at THE WYNN not give you gas... The TSA-pre lines shouldn't be longer than the general TSA line... Ban rolling 5 episodes on TV EVERYWHERE apps. Every channel must have the full current season and the original pilot at all times... Sleeper seats on airlines that are paired in twos need to have enough room to walk in front rather than having to jump over. Have to have this one... DIM SUM school lunch programs... We need technology that will stunt the growth of baby labradors so that they remain that size for their entire life. So cute... FYRE FESTIVAL... Overzealous spam filters... Every AMERICAN should have a paid year abroad before college... Lock BANNON, CONWAY, and MILLER in a room and throw away the room. This is a working list... Prequels don't always work. In execution or acceptance or both. BETTER CALL SAUL works. More than works. This season is fantastic. MIKE and GUS keeping us on the edges of our seats even though we know their future... I'd prefer HILLARY CLINTON stop talking about the election. It's done. She needs to be GORE-like. Get a hobby... US retail looks bleak amid thousands of store closures and a slew of bankruptcies. Is the so-called retail apocalypse a market adjustment or a seismic shift in how people shop? We take a look in FashionSET: "Is This the Retail Apocalypse?"... Conservative media has seen ESPN’s business problems through the prism of politics. But the network’s struggles are much more straightforward.

"The concept of ‘the model’ differs between fine art, design, architecture, fashion, photography and new media, and offers an intriguing mix of things: it can be a rudimentary sketch, an ideal, a miniature, a set of instructions, a maquette or a prototype... But only in fashion is the model a living, breathing human being; and only in fashion does this creature have an inert counterpart, in the form of the dress she wears, also known as the model."

We shouldn't be surprised that fast fashion is at fault here.

Last week the major labels were all over the media shouting excitedly about new positive streaming figures. But, points out Eamonn Forde, the reality is far from rosy -- especially for those artists tQ loves.

It goes without saying (hey there, Las Vegas Raiders!) that the NFL’s gambling policy is a hypocritical mess. But now that I no longer work for Rupert Murdoch, I can plainly state that every word out of Roger Goodell’s mouth about legalized sports betting for the past 20 months has been nothing but lip service.

After her husband died suddenly from a cardiac arrhythmia, Facebook's COO Sheryl Sandberg ("Lean In") thought she would never experience true joy again. Nearly two years later, she is out with a new book," Option B," that delves into how she proved herself wrong— and how others can build resilience in the face of trauma, too.

On the outskirts of Bangalore one morning last summer, a sullen young man named Manjunath stood high atop a cocoa-colored 1,850-gallon tanker truck, waiting for its belly to fill with water. The source of the liquid was a bore well, a cylindrical metal shaft puncturing hundreds of feet down into the earth.

Recent shifts in the media ecosystem raise new concerns about the vulnerability of democratic societies to fake news and the public’s limited ability to contain it. Fake news as a form of misinformation benefits from the fast pace that information travels in today’s media ecosystem, in particular across social media platforms.

I’d encourage media producers/activists to see that periods of closure give way to moments of openness--and new production and transmission technologies are the reasons for such apertures developing. So we can’t be luddites and must look for the emergent in places where we might not like to look.
