| rantnrave:// JOHN OLIVER is the greatest single thing on television... The global crisis that worries me the most? Education. It's a growing shame in the UNITED STATES. It's political and lobbies are all over it. Children suffer and thus our future suffers. In a brief glance at the BREXIT decision breakdown, a large chasm is clear in relation to differing education. Many voters not even knowing what they voted for. But we see politicians fight over the legitimacy of charter schools with no better solutions or compromises. Again, children suffer... BREXIT divisions are also over economic lines. Haves and have nots. This story is as old as any story. So while we can all freak out (or not) over the vote. What of the legitimate ideas behind voter frustration? Managed immigration balanced against what the country can handle? Economic disparity? The loss of national identity and customs? I'm not talking about the gross perversions of this idea but more about the importance of localization in a world of globalization. All legitimate concerns and yet the narrative is hijacked by extremists. I'm a novice but I'm starting to ask the questions and seek the answers. Lastly, while I finished the season finale of FX's spy drama, THE AMERICANS, I wondered about the role of foreign governments and their clandestine organizations in the political and social upheaval in the U.S. and U.K. We do it, I'm sure they do... I'm business angry today. I have to listen to sounds of ocean waves... This narrative was on the news yesterday: White people are under attack in America. That's awesome comedy right there... THE GODFATHER baptism. INGLORIOUS BASTERDS movie theater. GAME OF THRONES' 'SEPT OF BAELOR'... OMG, I love LADY MORMONT (spoilers)... CNN should be ashamed they don't have yesterday's FAREED ZAKARIA's Brexit open online... FashionREDEF SET - Bill Cunningham's Labor of Love: Ten great reads -- and one essential documentary -- on the late Bill Cunningham, arguably one of the most important chroniclers of modern dress and certainly among fashion's most beloved figures... MusicREDEF SET - Behind the Song, Part 3: Still more artists writing, recording, and talking about writing and recording, classic songs... Shortly before the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union last Thursday, two of the country's leading supporters of Brexit - Boris Johnson, the Conservative former mayor of London, and Nigel Farage, leader of the far-right UK Independence Party - argued that the vote could turn June 23 into Britain's "Independence Day." | |

Gawker Media has filed for bankruptcy. The specific circumstances leading to that bankruptcy are unique and bizarre. The fact of a media company declaring itself bankrupt, however, is pretty much a commonplace. Under other conditions-even facing down a different, more conventionally motivated lawsuit-Gawker's bankruptcy process might seem somewhat straightforward.

Nikesh Arora shocked the business world two years ago when he jumped from his role as Google's chief business officer to SoftBank , the idiosyncratic Japanese telecom company. There, he was quickly elevated to second-in-command, in line to take the CEO role when founder and CEO Masayoshi Son stepped down sometime in his 60's.

On March 26, 2013, Veniamin Balika pulled his 18-wheeler over at the New Jersey Turnpike's Vince Lombardi rest area. The reprieve didn't last long, as Balika soon found himself handcuffed and arrested by state policemen. The driver didn't have anything too suspicious in his possession, only a massive shipment totaling 42,000 pounds of Muenster cheese, valued at over $200,000, stored in his refrigerated truck.

One evening in March, a group of tech industry elite sat around a table in the private dining room of a Michelin-star restaurant in San Francisco, listening to a talk about how to do their jobs. The people assembled wielded about as much power as anyone in Silicon Valley, but they weren't the likes of Sheryl Sandberg, Marissa Mayer or Elon Musk.

CANNES, France-Rembrandt van Rijn finished his last painting in 1669, the year he died. So it was enthralling, and a little unsettling, to step on to a boat at the Cannes Lions festival for a private viewing of the first new Rembrandt in 347 years.
