| rantnrave:// I missed the news about the TESLA accident until my friend HAYES gave me an update at dinner. New technologies breed wonder and progress but with those innovations comes risk. No matter how advanced, no technology is totally safe. Traffic deaths are way up in the U.S. and I imagine globally. My hope is that this will lead to learning and the promise of autonomous driving lives up to its potential. Pooling driving data globally can help optimize and refine decisions autonomous cars make leading to the near elimination of accidents. And we're talking updating every second given global connectivity of drivers in the future. The same way WAZE has made navigation easier and faster I hope autonomous cars make it safer to drive. Other benefits are more time spent with the family and friends deep in conversation instead of watching the road. More time for media and entertainment. Or just quiet time for all of us to unwind and maybe meditate with HEADSPACE. With risk comes reward. I don't see these dangers and issues any different than any other evolution in travel and mobility. The debate has begun on the ethics and other dilemmas... Listening to READY PLAYER ONE on AUDIBLE during my drive out to MALIBU this morning and on my daily walk. I'm excited. I absolutely love all the 80's pop culture references to video games, music, television, and devices. STEVEN SPIELBERG has begun production on the film and I'm hoping a healthy cultural obsession with that time period from fans as a result. Today, with the overwhelming nature of information and new things I notice that youth doesn't look back as much to understand origins. I don't often read books that turn into movies. The details are pretty stellar so far and I'm super interested to see how Spielberg bunches much of it into seconds of screen time without the voice overs. Cool stuff... What will the next big interface look like? Based on the investments of technology leaders, the answer is probably virtual reality or augmented reality. | |

Virginia Heffernan's Twitter bio once described her as "something like a critic." Her reluctance to fully embrace the title is understandable, given that most of what passes as technology criticism today tends either towards gadget reviews or curmudgeons bemoaning the loss of what makes us human.

It's a confusing time in the advertising industry. Currently, most agencies are treading water and at an impasse as to what the future holds. As an industry, we are deeply entrenched in an obsolete way of operating that frankly just doesn't work anymore.
