The press is not the enemy of the people. The press is the enemy of the powerful, unaccountable and corrupt. The unjust, unethical, and dishonest. The bully, the blowhard. The cover-up, run around and false pretense. Let’s be clear: that’s made the press the enemy of one person.

rantnrave:// Sorry that I'm late today. No ranting and raving. Nothing smart (other than our daily picks). Just some random observations. I was out late night with VAN TOFFLER and BEN WHITE. We went to see PHOENIX at the FONDA THEATER in LOS ANGELES. Courtesy of my longtime friend DANIEL GLASS (who may have the best taste in the music business). They are a great band. They have their own unique next-century-like "wall of sound." Simple stage set, with bright, saturated colors and visuals. Check out of my INSTAGRAM. Here is their stellar 2013 AUSTIN CITY LIMITS performance. One thing that did disturb me? Van wore ripped jeans. The kind of jeans that were professionally ripped. He's 63 years old (I think). Help him. If your friend needs help. Help them. Not only when it's easy... MATT BALL on HBO's lineup... More on APPLE later in the week. Some cool stuff at their event yesterday. I like when the Apple execs leave more than 2 of the top shirt buttons unbuttoned when they present. Makes them hipper while they read off teleprompters... Friends doing well: Congrats to CHRIS OVITZ on the sale of his company WORKPOP. And to JULIE UHRMAN on her new gig... Happy Birthday to SRIRAM KRISHNAN, SEAN MILLS, LARRY ZHONG, VIVIAN SCHILLER, and SALOME EDGEWORTH. I like to list the birthdays of my friends and acquaintances. They get pulled from FACEBOOK. So if you're not on, or don't list it there, I'm not remembering. Like this ADAM BAIN dude. He's a pal. The former COO of TWITTER. Probably thinks that holding his birthday away from Facebook is like corporate loyalty. So I missed it yesterday. Belated one to Adam. Tweet him or send him an email if you know him. It will make him feel better. I personally think I didn't list it subconsciously. Why? Because he knows the founders of GOAT. He knows I collect sneakers. And he's refused to let them know that the thumbnails of said sneakers are too small on their iOS app. But you love your friends. Warts and all (with limits).
