| | rantnrave:// I'm not looking to blame. I don't think the intent was there. I don't think they knew the damage and division that would occur. And certainly the country was divided already. Nor do I think they think about possible damage until someone complains. There was unbelievable negligence in refusing to consider the consequences of what they were building, even as the consequences were becoming clear to a lot of others. What we click on is our responsibility. But does that mean a tech platform shouldn't be mindful and look out for societal well-being? All we knew is changing. The dissemination of information is faster than ever. People are being manipulated by their own private choices. The big-brother-like, super cynical, now beyond-evil engagement tactics and micro-targeting are hurting the greater good. FACEBOOK. GOOGLE. TWITTER. Name it. The notion that Facebook had employees embedded in any political campaign is sickening. The agnostic blameless excuse is tired and cowardly. I wonder who they consult outside their own organizations? "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." I don't know the answers. I know it's all a slippery slope. It's not just platforms of course. Politicians have sunk to a low that would have been unbelievable a short time ago. Entire news organizations sometimes going for speed over accuracy. Or ones that exist to peddle lies.
