About two days after the news, I think it was the second night, we were sleeping in this little cabin near the water, a place he would've loved. And all these memories started coming in about 1:30 am, like woke me up... And then I couldn't stop the memories. And trying to sleep it was like if the neighbors had the music playing and you couldn't stop it... Each of these memories was quick and I had hours of them. How fortunate was I?!

rantnrave:// Permission to not be serious, or even totally on-topic, for one day. Because it rained (allegedly) in LA on Tuesday, and it's the June Gloom, and the night before on the other side of the country JERRY SEINFELD delivered the most unsubtle curve in red-carpet history to KESHA, and the NEW YORK TIMES crossword puzzle was constructed by LISA LOEB (20 across: "Regulation regarding a 2007 #1 RIHANNA hit?"), and it's been that kind of week. And this is what I've been reading, watching and listening to: MTV NEWS used a lyric in SELENA GOMEZ's "BAD LIAR" to investigate, at length, whether the TROJAN WAR, which took place three millennia ago, was "subtle or nah," and RACHEL HANDLER's piece, which includes an interview with her history-major dad, turns out to be a pretty good track review and a reminder of why I once fell in love with MTV... In other literary criticism news, BOB DYLAN appears to have made up a HERMAN MELVILLE quote in his NOBEL lecture, and the NEW REPUBLIC's JEET HEER makes a sort of convincing case that it's Dylan's way of merging the literary and folk-music traditions. Or maybe Bob simply thought it sounded good... This is a 100 percent accurate JEZEBEL headline based on a 100 percent real JIMMY KIMMEL clip: SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS says STEVIE WONDER Can See What You're Wearing... The weird and wonderful U TALKIN' U2 TO ME?podcast returns from a two-year hiatus to chat about—and sort of not chat about—the JOSHUA TREE tour, and there should absolutely definitely be more podcasts that are longer than the concerts they're about. Bonus points if they spend 3 minutes and 45 seconds talking about the song "EXIT"... If you are the chief revenue officer of INTERSCOPE GEFFEN A&M, you are in charge of playlists for the label. I mean, of course... If you need an MC to confront BILL MAHER this week about what he said last week, ICE CUBE is a smart, sensible choice (along with MICHAEL ERIC DYSON and SYMONE SANDERS). I would have preferred CHANCE THE RAPPER though... RIP JEFFREY TATE.

How to Make It in Music: Musical Duo Eleven was Born in an Independent Study
by Dr. Guthrie Ramsey
“Step Forward,” the debut track from Eleven, a Penn musical duo featuring Karis Stephen and Blue Bookhard, doesn’t sound like something composed in a dorm room fueled by ramen and Red Bull. Instead, there’s a kind of sheen to the minimalist beat and intentionally disaffected delivery. The track is polished, tidy, and professional.
