| rantnrave:// If you're at BONNAROO this weekend, you can plan your schedule like clockwork. You know KHALID hits the stage at 9:30 tonight, you know CHROMEO's going on at 1:15 in the morning, and if you need to plan your weekend around BON IVER's back-to-back sets at 9:45 pm Saturday and 12:25 am Sunday, you've had plenty of time to make those arrangements. But if you're here in LA and you want to see, say, SLEEP at the WILTERN tonight, what's your strategy? Doors at 7, show at 8. That's the entire schedule. And here's what isn't going to happen at 8: Sleep. May not happen at 9 either. You can call the club and hope the info is available somewhere on the club's voicemail spiderweb, or maybe get a friendly human on the phone. Maybe SCENESTAR will eventually post set times on its oft-helpful TWITTER feed, but also maybe not. Often, you just have to guess, or know a publicist, or get there early and drink and wait. The bands know when they're playing. The clubs know. Why can't you? SCOTT ENMAN makes a passionate plea for publicizing set times in dance clubs, where the hours—and the wait—can be much longer. If your revenue model depends on fans getting there early and buying drinks, then give them actual reasons to show up for that. Don't do it by stressing them out. I know I'm whining. But I'm right... Something else you can plan for at Bonnaroo: Laundry... KANYE WEST is still recording and mixing the album he released a week ago... I used to hate old people who salivated over every newly unearthed JIMI HENDRIX recording. Now I'm an old person who salivates over every newly unearthed PRINCE recording. But seriously. You're salivating, too... QUESTLOVE on PRINCE's zen-like rehearsal regimen... Also newly unearthed: JOHN COLTRANE, 1963... STANFORD law prof ANNEMARIE BRIDY on hateful conduct policies: "Even if you think SPOTIFY should be making content moderation decisions based on artists' off-platform conduct, it’s pretty clear that they lack in-house competence and capacity to make fair judgments about that conduct"... So how's this for a hateful conduct policy?... BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN will perform at the TONY AWARDS Sunday night (8 pm ET on CBS)... It's FRIDAY and that means new music from KIDS SEE GHOSTS (KANYE WEST & KID CUDI), SNAIL MAIL, SERPENTWITHFEET, JORJA SMITH, THE MIDNIGHT HOUR (ALI SHAHEED MUHAMMAD & ADRIAN YOUNGE), SUGARLAND, ANGELIQUE KIDJO, DIERKS BENTLEY, LILY ALLEN, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND, LYKKE LI, ERIN RAE, YOB, NE-YO, KADHJA BONET, CLAPTONE, POPTONE, FREEWAY, FIONA JOY, JON HASSELL, RIVER WHYLESS, MICHAEL FRANKS, HOWLIN RAIN, JESSE DAYTON, SHANNON SHAW and the FUTURE-curated SUPERFLY soundtrack. | | - Matty Karas, curator |
