rantnrave:// STRETCH AND BOBBITO in the house, on NPR!... Two more things about R. KELLY: "It's like Stockholm Syndrome," an insider tells JEZEBEL about the five or six young women who allegedly constitute the singer's inner circle of girlfriends. She claims none of them are staying with Kelly against their will but "they're completely manipulated and brainwashed." I'm not in the habit of moralizing about pop stars' sexual habits, or writing about them at all. I don't care. But this isn't that, if the allegations published this week are true. This is difficult to put into words. Difficult to stomach. This is REMBERT BROWNE writing about Kelly four years ago, when the circumstances were different but the conversation the same. Anyone who's had to apologize for a "troubled" artist should read it... The other thing about Kelly is reporter JIM DEROGATIS, who wrote this week's BUZZFEED blockbuster, telling SLATE he spent nine months on the story and "most of that time was spent, post–HULK HOGAN and GAWKER, finding a media outlet that was willing to run it." Dear music media sites: It's scary out there. I know. Courage... Though most of the reporting is second-hand, BUSINESS INSIDER's SAM SHEAD does a good job in this longread laying out SOUNDCLOUD's history and rounding up everything that's been reported on how the company got into financial trouble... SoundCloud and FADER launch a video series today on underground music scenes around the world. The first episode of NEXT WAVE will appear here and cover LA's goth-rap scene... As someone who grew up reading every credit on every record label I could find (you did too, right?), I want to high-five MATT WAKE for his in-depth portraits of CHRIS WEBER and the late WEST ARKEEN, the two outside songwriters who have one co-writing credit each on APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION (released 30 years ago this week). That's how you go behind the music. Now if someone could please bring us up to date on my favorite GNR writing credit, IZZY STRADLIN... LANA DEL REY is partly responsible for all the depressing songs on the radio these days, according to Lana Del Rey... NME reported—and then quietly retracted—that RADIOHEAD covered PINK FLOYD's "MONEY" Wednesday during the encore of its TEL AVIV show, which would have been a headline-worthy retort to ROGER WATERS, one of the loudest voices protesting the band's decision to perform in ISRAEL. The satiric "Don't give me that do-goody-good bulls***" fired back at the satirist, satirically. But it appears not to have happened. So ignore all that. RADIOHEAD did play its longest show in 11 years, to a crowd of 47,000... RIP RED WEST, ELVIS PRESLEY songwriter and confidant (and co-author of the notorious "ELVIS: WHAT HAPPENED?").
