It is excellent news precisely because of the political moment, for the three countries to host the most important event in the world. Let’s not forget soccer is the most important thing of all the unimportant things.

rantnrave:// There is a new normal in the wake of DONALD TRUMP's rise to the presidency. Some of the unlikeliest names are being bandied about as possible presidential candidates, and they can come from anywhere, including sports. WWE wrestler KANE is running for mayor of KNOX COUNTY, TENN., and MARK CUBAN's name has been thrown around for the highest office. If THE APPRENTICE can produce a president, why can't the NBA? (Don't forget: The NBA gave us former KNICKS star BILL BRADLEY, who went on to serve three terms as a US Senator from NEW JERSEY and ran against AL GORE for the DEMOCRATIC nomination for president in 2000)... The bombing attack on GERMAN soccer club BORUSSIA DORTMUND was frightening. This is not the first attack on a soccer team or venue, and although we don't know the motive, it's clear sport is being used as an occasional target in EUROPE. Questions about security should -- and will -- be asked not only there, but in the US as well... SPORTS ILLUSTRATED's tick-tock on how TOM BRADY's jersey was retrieved is wonderful journalism and a reminder of the great lengths we go to for sports. Want to know how much sports means to us? Read the SI story and understand how important teams and leagues are to fans and even governments. Then check out ESPN's "We the Fans" series, which puts a microscope on a group of BEARS fans and explores the meaning football brings them and how much they're willing to invest back into it... Is there a better way to gauge eSports viewership?
