Everybody wears a uniform that they don't necessarily like, but you wear it. If you want to rip it after, you can rip it up after. I've seen guys rip it up after. | | This is Chris Sale and this is a proper Chicago White Sox uni. | rantnrave:// It was a busy weekend. I mean, it's sports, it's always a busy weekend... WNBA president LISA BORDERS did the right thing and reversed her decision to fine several players for warming up in black t-shirts to protest recent killings. The tone-deaf initial response was widely criticized; the quick change of heart is a refreshing sign of league leadership listening to its critics... CHRIS SALE really, really didn't want to wear a certain throwback uniform. Unilaterally assuming the role of fashion critic, SALE, who clearly has deeper issues with the WHITE SOX, destroyed a locker room full of throwbacks to make sure no one else could wear them either. At this point he's as likely to get a job on E!'s "FASHION POLICE" as he is to ever wear any WHITE SOX uniform again (which is to say, both are still possible)... The IOC decided not to ban the entire RUSSIAN delegation from the summer OLYMPICS, a decision that's both controversial and defensible, but is continuing to ban middle-distance runner YULIYA STEPANOVA, the whistleblower who helped expose the RUSSIAN doping apparatus in the first place, which is weird... CHRIS FROOME won the TOUR DE FRANCE... JEFF GORDON finished in the middle of the pack at the BRICKYARD 400... And we learned that U OF KENTUCKY flagged point guard TYLER ULIS with an NCAA violation last year because he took a photo with DRAKE. Stop destroying kids' lives, DRIZZY... But none of that is what I'm here to talk about. I'm here this morning simply to acknowledge CRISTIAN GARCIA, a UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA linebacker who police said helped stopped a rape THURSDAY morning in GAINESVILLE. "I hold strong moral values and I don't think anyone should be taken advantage of in that kind of way," GARCIA said after physically pulling the alleged attacker away from the victim. We see stories far too often about athletes on the other side of that headline, and coaches and universities who blindly defend them. It's nice to be reminded, every once in a while, that there are good guys out there, too... RIP DENNIS GREEN, TYREK COGER, SAM FOLTZ and MIKE SADLER. | | - Matty Karas, curator |

With the trade deadline just a leg kick and a lunge away, it's time to make a bold proclamation: the Milwaukee Brewers are the most interesting team in baseball. That title can mean a number of things to a number of people: the team with the most talent, most wins, most oddballs, whatever.

French philosopher Roland Barthes' most seminal work, Mythologies, interrogates the social constructs that are often presented as 'natural.' For Barthes, "myth is a language," which means everything, including trusted signs like tree, dog, pen, as well as cultural artifacts like novels, fashion, and food, or institutions, such as marriage, are constructs that are naturalized, or, mythologized.
