| rantnrave:// The US MENS NATIONAL TEAM isn't going to the 2018 WORLD CUP. A doomsday scenario. TAYLOR TWELLMAN is not OK with it. Should've been a cinch -- a win or tie at last-place TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO and off to RUSSIA. Instead, the 2-1 loss -- and PANAMANIAN home-cooking -- puts the USMNT at a crossroads. Is this it for US SOCCER president SUNIL GULATI? Coach BRUCE ARENA too -- or was he given too poor a hand when JURGEN KLINSMANN was fired after two qualifying games? It's easy to start firing people but USMNT needs a rebuild. Does the entire US system need restructuring? It finally gets a world-class talent in CHRISTIAN PULISIC and he'll have to wait until at least 2022 to play in a World Cup. NETHERLANDS is out too. ICELAND and MESSI are in. How do FOX SPORTS execs feel right now?... Sometimes it feels like 2017 is a case of deja vu. Like we're having the same conversations over and over again. Or one long discussion that never ends. ESPN and JEMELE HILL; the NFL, PRESIDENT TRUMP, and the national anthem. September never felt so long. These are important conversations to have. Not belittling the topics. There's no half-life when talking about the boundaries of speech and criticism, and who gets to say what where. But it can seem like the opposing sides are in a battle of attrition. ESPN suspended Hill for two weeks. For what? Depends who you ask. ESPN says she violated its social media guidelines. Was it a makeup call? Is the decision consistent with ESPN leaving her on TV after she labeled Trump a "white supremacist?" Is her freedom to opine curbed when she starts talking about sponsors? Did she call for a boycott? Should a company have a right to limit what employees say that will directly affect their business? Is it different for media companies? Is this different than what's going on in the NFL? When does a corporation decide that its employees have said too much? How much should the NFL weigh that these are social issues important to their players, even if its owners disagree? Does it matter if they agree with the politics? The NFL wants its players to stand for the anthem. Will it start enforcing the rules? Is it patriotic if it's mandatory? Who sets the political and social ethos for the league: the players or the owners? If players are insubordinate, what's the right punishment? Does the CBA cover this? Is this a moment of truth for the NFL PLAYERS ASSOCIATION?... This hasn't aged well... LISA ZIMOUCHE... COSMO THE COUGAR got moves... Duck duck -- gray duck? | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |

From country music to his baby-on-board minivan, Jimmy Butler is still a small-town kid from Texas. Even if the NBA no longer sees him like that.

Before an otherwise unremarkable preseason game in August 2016, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat quietly on the sideline bench while his teammates stood for the National Anthem. The protest movement launched by that decision has since engulfed the national conversation surrounding the NFL, spread to other sports, and drawn attacks from the president.
