| rantnrave:// Tuesday was a rarity. An NFL trade deadline that mattered. Haven't been many (any?) of those before. The EAGLES got a RB for their SUPER BOWL run. The SEAHAWKS got a left tackle to preserve RUSSELL WILSON. The PATRIOTS traded away JIMMY GAROPPOLO. That was a shocker. Does that tell us BELICHICK doesn't intend to stay a while if he's dealing TOM BRADY's heir apparent? Because it doesn't seem like Brady has plans to retire. TOM JUNOD and SETH WICKERSHAM delved into Brady's lifestyle brand -- the TB12 METHOD -- and his new book. They came out with a new understanding of the QB. Brady wants to play until he's 45. Injuries are a mindset, not physiological. Does Brady sound more like a self-help guru or a snakeoil salesman? Is TB12 the GOOP for athletes? The story doesn't always seem fair to Brady. It implies he was more fortunate than good in winning his last two titles -- and that the Pats thought of life after Brady in 2014 -- but it does explain why he thinks he can play as long as he wants. Brady is an anomaly. QBs don't play this well at 40. His longevity has changed expectations for BEN ROETHLISBERGER and ELI MANNING. He made it seem like QBs can still play at their peak in their late 30s, when he's actually breaking the norms, not making them. Brady's doing something right. But if he wants to start monetizing himself, he should expect scrutiny. As a QB, Brady is judged on how well he plays. His TB12 Method works for him -- even if it is dubious -- so he can believe what he wants. As a salesman, he's asking us to believe in him. Why should we?... Pro football is back in Los Angeles but it’s not thriving -- yet. Can the NFL’s return to LA work? The RAMS are in the midst of a rejuvenation, but the CHARGERS are under .500 and playing in 27,000-seat stadium they can't fill. Will LA ever feel like home for the Rams and Chargers? SportsSET: "Who Wanted an NFL Team in LA Anyway?"... Remember when ALEX RODRIGUEZ was a baseball pariah? Seems like ages ago. He doesn't need a redemption tour. He's been redeemed. VANITY FAIR is the latest, with a long story on A-Rod and his girlfriend, JENNIFER LOPEZ. The YANKEES need a new manager, if he's interested... 245 miles and a smile. | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |
