| rantnrave:// The WORLD SERIES ended with a thud but the HOUSTON ASTROS don't care. The new champs rocked YU DARVISH in the first two innings and that's all they needed. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED called it. A moment of celebration for a city that endured tragedy and disaster because of HURRICANE HARVEY. It won't help with rebuilding the city but hopefully it'll add some levity and brightness. The fans who lost so much get a champion. The Astros gave Houston its first World Series title. They bashed their way to a title. MVP GEORGE SPRINGER. It's a victory for process. The Astros tanked for three straight seasons and strip-mined the major league roster. The BAD NEWS BEARS without the ASTRODOME. But Houston piled up talent and prospects, and turned it around. It walked baseball's high-wire act and didn't get tripped up. Hold out hope, 76ERS and BROWNS fans. Nothing erases ridicule like winning. GM JEFF LUHNOW and the organization were laughed at when Houston won 162 games over three seasons but they built a foundation. JUSTIN VERLANDER is one of the best trade deadline acquisitions ever -- a 1.66 ERA in 70 2/3 innings -- and made it to Houston by a matter of minutes. CARLOS BELTRAN wins his first ring. CARLOS CORREA and JOSE ALTUVE are the best middle infield in the sport. Correa had the ballpark proposal to end them all (but what if LA won?). The Astros are built to last. A core of stars under 30 and a smart front office. LA will stick around too. They were one game away from finishing off a season that was on its way to being one of the best ever at one point. These two teams should be able to contend for years to come. They gave us one of the most exciting World Series in history. A thrilling week that wasn't ruined by a deflating finale. The rock-em, sock-em Games 2 and 5. A nice touch by YULI GURRIEL to hat-tip Darvish a day after RICH HILL stepped aside for DODGER STADIUM to boo him for his racist gesture days earlier. Should CLAYTON KERSHAW have started instead? Hindsight is easy. Kershaw still doesn't have the ring he's looking for but he doesn't need validation; four shutout innings on two days rest was spectacular. He may get a World Series one day. The Astros have theirs now. What a capstone to 2017... PAPA JOHN'S blames the NFL for its problems. Papa John's is pointing in the wrong direction. But even if its reasoning is faulty, how big of an issue is it for the NFL? If its sponsors are publicly pointing fingers, what are they saying in private? Is the NFL on the brink of losing advertisers? More trouble for commissioner ROGER GOODELL... CARPOOL KARAOKE with the King... It's a day that ends in 'y' -- do the Giants know where their DBs are? | | - Mike Vorkunov, curator |

One of the biggest early season NHL stories has been the success of the expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights. Not only are the Golden Knights off to an 8-2 start, but they also rank in the top 10 of the most expensive average prices on the secondary market according to TicketIQ, the company I founded.

There are rebuilding projects ... and there's what the Astros are trying: an unprecedented burn-the-house-down overhaul. There are innovative front offices ... and there is Houston's, which includes a Nerd Cave led by a former blackjack dealer turned rocket scientist. Can it work? By October 2017, it might seem silly to ask
