Grant for the Web Announces First Call For Proposals
Grant for the Web is a collaborative partnership between Mozilla, Creative Commons, and Coil. Its goal is to identify new models for online monetization that address the web’s most urgent issues: loss of privacy, centralization of power, and inequalities in online participation. This funding cycle will support projects that contribute to an ecosystem including monetized content, tools, and infrastructure.

Efficient file format AV1 continues to gain popularity
iQIYI is a member of the Alliance for Open Media, of which Mozilla is a founding member. They're also the first Chinese streaming company to deploy the data saving, high quality, royalty-free, open file format AV1. They’re one of the largest online video sites in the world, with over 500 million monthly active users. iQIYI's announcement includes plans to work with chip makers and mobile phone vendors to expand the deployment of the file format. YouTube for Android TV has also introduced AV1 for use on capable platforms. They join Netflix in the list of recent adopters.
