Good evening from Crete,
I hope you are doing well and that your career is blossoming. Whether you are focusing on Java or a language running on the JVM, it is an interesting time to be in our world. There are so many changes in the Java versions that it is hard to keep up. We all want to be great at our job. None of us want to feature on "The Daily WTF". Since you read my newsletter, I'm assuming that you are already in the top 1% of Java programmers in the world.
I'm not the best Java programmer in the world. I'm not even the best Java programmer in Greece. I may be the best Java programmer in Chorafakia, a small village of about 1000 souls. Yes, you guessed right that I don't know other Java programmers in our area :-)
But people have told me countless times that I have a skill in explaining complex topics in an easy way. It's a natural gifting, that I inherited from my teacher ancestors. In a classroom I often can sense the exact question that someone will ask. It's a form of mental telepathy. Don't ask me how it works.
A few years ago, I decided to venture into self-study training. This was a lot more difficult to do, because I did not have the prompting of a class in front of me. I would have to guess what questions someone might have.
Two years ago, self-study training was a very small part of my business. Most of my courses were in front of a classroom in corporate environments. Together with a few assistant lecturers, JavaSpecialists taught about 500 students a year.
But now I've got close to 10 000 students taking my self-study courses. I doubt that I've seen even close to half of that number of students since I began teaching advanced Java in 1999.
It is fun receiving emails from around the world, raving about how the training helped them in their job. Or to find the next great job.
Tomorrow at 18:00 UTC (11am San Francisco, 2pm New York, 7pm London, 8pm Frankfurt) we are running a sales webinar. The purpose is to show off the many courses that we now offer via self-study. We will explain why some courses are more expensive (hint: some have exercises that I will mark myself). We want to show how you can ask questions in the material. How and where you can get completion certificates. It is a sales webinar, so you won't learn much technical. There will be a special offer, but that you will only find out about if you sign up :-)
Here is where you can sign up: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7224409714168505857
Kind regards
Heinz
