Jay Johnson hasn't forgotten his way around the Arizona baseball program. The LSU coach, who came to Baton Rouge from Arizona, has reached back to his former program for another big transfer once again, this time big-hitting out fielder Mac Bingham. The All Pac-12 outfielder has one season of eligibility remaining but will certainly help fill the void left by No. 2 overall major league draft pick Dylan Crews. Bingham hit .360 with the Wildcats this season. We're on the verge of talking season at SEC Media Days next week in Nashville, but for now yours truly brings you a bit of the silly season. Yes, that midsummer classic, The Rabbys, are back, as we take an irreverent look back at the LSU athletic year that was. I'll be signing copies of the column in the lobby of The Advocate world headquarters building Saturday morning. Not really. I'll be writing the next thing for you folks to enjoy reading. In the spirit of players like Crews and Bingham, I've gone 2-for-3 in today's newsletter, byline-wise. My other story is on the decision of LSU women's golfer Ingrid Lindblad, the current No. 1-ranked women's amateur in the world, to return to school for her fifth season. Lindblad's return means LSU will have all of its key players back for the 2023-24 season, including Latanna Stone and Aine Donegan, who played so well in last week's U.S. Women's Open at Pebble Beach. Well, enough of my words for now. Next time you hear from me newsletter-wise, it will be from SEC Media Days. LSU gets things kicked off there Monday morning. Until then, stay hydrated and have a great sports weekend. Scott Rabalais |
