Ding ding! All aboard our collection of bus articles

While we love a bit of London Underground action, it's important not to forsake our four-wheeled friend, the humble bus. In fact, have you ever wondered how London's buses got their numbers? We delved into that once, discovering it goes back to 1906. Night buses are nothing new, either — the first set off 110 years ago (although as far as we can tell, no one was munching a cheeky shish on the backseat).

Fancy coming with us on a trip? You can ride the bus route where everyone thanks the driver, watch our 360-degree video of a New Routemaster cruising through central London, or be dazzled by the modernist gem that is Stockwell Bus Garage. And there's plenty to look forward to bus-wise too — including Superloop, and these tram-buses, soon to be on the streets of south London.

Some London buses live long and fruitful lives, even after they've stopped running. We've found them living out their retirement in Germany, Bermuda and Sri Lanka. Others aren't so lucky: in the 1980s/90s there was a phenomenon of racing double-deckers around a track in Northampton (usually by a driver called Terry). Oh and *pssst*, if you thought the days of drinking booze on buses was over... not quite true. We know of three buses in London where you can legally crack a beer. Cheers!
