MUSIC, RAIN AND ART: Eight hours of music and periodic rain or so of rain greeted crowds Saturday at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. The Revivalists canceled, but New Orleans’ most famous living artist was there touting paintings and sculptures by children and teen artists from his nonprofit.
JOY, PAIN AND SORROW: Amid the joy of Jazz Fest’s opening weekend,assailants gunned down a food server at Mandina’s and inadvertently wounded a diner. Police disclosed that the customer was a Chicago woman in town for the festival, and that a security guard fired back at the killers. The Mid-City restaurant won’t reopen until Monday.
