Jeff Landry's bid to rewrite Louisiana constitution gets pushback

BY JESSICA WILLIAMS | Capitol News Bureau Editor

New constitution?: Gov. Jeff Landry wants the Legislature and other delegates to convene by May to rewrite the state constitution, but not everyone is on board, Tyler Bridges reports. See the details.

Insurance bill advances: The state House voted Wednesday to grant insurers more leeway to drop homeowner policies, a move supporters say will attract new insurers to a struggling market, Bridges reports. Critics say existing rules protect policyholders.

No more sanctuary cities?: The state Senate voted Wednesday to ban New Orleans and other municipalities from harboring immigrants who enter the U.S. illegally, James Finn reports. If made law, the bill could nullify New Orleans' sanctuary city policy.
