Yousaf Sadiq grew up in Pakistan. He learned the psalms in Punjabi, his native language, from his father who sang them in poetic metrical songs that are called Zabur.
“The tunes and beautiful words would bring unexplainable peace and comfort to my mind and heart,” writes Sadiq. “Our house faced the main mosque in the area, and the adhan, the daily call to prayer sung by the imam, was loud through the minaret speakers. However, as I listened to the Zabur from my father, the call to prayer would fade from my ears.”
Like they did for Sadiq, these sung psalms continue to bring hope to Christian families and children in Pakistan, which is considered the fifth most difficult place in the world to follow Jesus. Through melody and shared truth and beauty, God heartens and comforts children from their youngest years.
This is but one example of God entering into the difficult places many children live around the world and offering them the comfort of his presence. We’ve linked a few more for you below, and we pray that seeing God’s kindness extended to little ones in dangerous places will give you courage and confidence that he sees you and your children, too.
