Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, August 24. Compared to the action-packed Tuesday, Wednesday was a relatively slow day for news on the Saints front. Here's what we have for you... Welcome backThe Saints welcomed Jimmy Graham back to practice for the first time since the star tight end experienced a "medical episode" and was detained by police in Newport Beach, Calif., last weekend. Graham showed no signs of rust as beat reporter Luke Johnson reports. Tuned upThe guy throwing most of those balls to Graham on Wednesday was quarterback Derek Carr, who dominated the team drills during practice. The prized free agent acquisition looks primed for the regular season, Johnson reports in his in-depth daily practice observations. Texans name a starterThe Houston Texans named rookie C.J. Stroud as the starting quarterback in their preseason game against the Saints on Sunday. Stroud will make his third consecutive start of the preseason as the team tries to get the Ohio State product ready for the regular season. Vegas likes the SaintsThe Saints are heavily favored to win the NFC South Division this season, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers. Our NOLA Bets sports betting guru Jim Derry looks at all of the odds and betting propositions for the Saints this season. The Saints return to the practice field today and will work out in the Superdome on Friday in preparation for their exhibition game against the Texans on Sunday. As usual, we'll have tons of news and analysis throughout the week. Until next time.... Cheers, Jeff Duncan |
