Selling Put Options Paying Out Big With S&P 500 Walking Highwire
Lu Wang - Bloomberg
The surprisingly resilient equity market is invigorating a time-honored options strategy, driving it to the best start of a year in two decades.
The Cboe S&P 500 PutWrite Index (ticker PUT), which sells at-the-money bearish options on the benchmark against cash reserves, has climbed in all but one of the past 17 sessions, scoring a win rate not seen in four years. Up more than 7% since January, the strategy has notched a gain bigger than any time since 1999 this far into a year.

Stock Market Keeps Going Up, But Skeptics Hold Tight to the Bear Case
Vildana Hajric and Emily Graffeo - Bloomberg
Climbing a wall of worry is one thing. Scaling the towering monolith of skepticism that currently comprises Wall Street's view of markets takes uncommon courage.
The more the S&P 500 goes up — and it's risen 6% in a month — the less people trust it. Hedge funds have been loading up bets against US stocks, with S&P 500 e-mini futures data showing near the most bearish reading since November 2011.

Christine Idzelis - MarketWatch
Equity and bond markets have calmed since last month's regional bank failures sparked contagion fears, but political brinkmanship over the U.S. debt ceiling risks reigniting volatility, warns CreditSights.
"There has been no discernible progress made on a deal, which is likely to result in debt ceiling negotiations coming down to the wire once again," CreditSights analysts led by global head of strategy Winnie Cisar said in a note Monday.

Tesla's Earnings Will Move the Stock. Options Can Reduce the Risk.
Al Root - Barron's
Earnings from Tesla—the next report is due on Wednesday—tend to move the stock big time, so the stakes are high for investors. Stock options can help to take the edge off.
In a Tuesday research report, Susquehanna analyst Christopher Jacobson, detailed how Tesla (ticker: TSLA) stockholders can use a so-called collar strategy to get "low-cost mid-term protection." He recommends buying a put option on Tesla stock with a strike price of $150 that expires in September and selling a call option with a strike price of $240 that expires the same month.
