JOIN BRITCHAM FOR THE LOSEBY LECTURE 2023
THE LONG HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL LEGAL RELATIONS & THE RULE OF LAW
In 1932, when Ho Chi Minh was detained by the British in Hong Kong, the government’s lawyer, Sir Stafford Cripps, recommended release. This was maybe against the diplomatic interests of Britain, but was based on the standards and conventions of international law. But why were they obliged to respect such a law? What would have been the consequences if they had not?
In this lecture, the speaker, Professor Fernanda Pirie, Professor of the Anthropology of Law, Faculty of Law, Oxford University will address this puzzle by examining the long history of international laws. How do such laws work and what impact do they have?
This promises to be fascinating seminar, don’t mis out, sign up below and find out more!
