| Elif Shafak: There Are Rivers in the Sky | Elif Shafak’s There are Rivers in the Sky is a story of one lost poem, two great rivers, and three remarkable lives – all connected by a single drop of water. Stretching from Mesopotamia to Victorian London, this rich, sweeping novel conjures a web of characters living in the shadow of one of the greatest epic poems of all time: the Epic of Gilgamesh.
An outspoken critic of the Turkish government and a champion of women’s rights and free speech, Shafak’s books explore themes of love, identity and cultural division. In 2019, her novels became a target for ‘crimes of obscenity’ by the increasingly repressive Turkish government. She has since been living in self-imposed exile in London.
In this special livestreamed event, join her for a wide-ranging conversation about her latest novel, her craft and her inspirations.
