I was discussing on Mornings the housing crisis and how rents had skyrocketed.

I took a call from Moss, a 70-year-old pensioner who’d been listening to my conversation.

Moss told me how she had to leave her Stoneville home of 12 years because she couldn’t afford the $50 a week rent increase.

She simply could not manage to pay $400 a week.

Moss told me how she’d been living in her car for almost two weeks, had applied for 20 rental homes without success, and did not eat for three days because she’d run out of money.

Moss’s story touched a lot of people and was inundated with offers of help which got her a new home.

But her story is a familiar one. Moss is the human face of WA’s housing crisis.

So how do we fix it?

That’s what I’ll explore at the next Mornings Spotlight Forum next Wednesday 23 August.

My expert panel will discuss a range of issues including how many homes we need, where should they be built and what should the mix be? And how do we address chronic labour shortages?
